cd light catchers craft Recipe
CD Light Catchers Shared with Recipe by Dawn Strand Kirkland, Washington
This is a fun, easy, rainy day, craft that is sure to please kids of all ages, even the young at heart.
What you need:
2 blank CD's (no scratches), (or those pesky internet CD's that keep popping into your mailbox and are free at your local grocery or discount store like Wal-Mart at the checkout) Craft foam sheets in any color Jiggly craft eyes Scissors Non toxic craft glue String or fishing line cut to desired lengths for hanging your creation Paper template of any animal or marine mammal shape (your wish to make) Add ons: yarn for a tail, mane or hair, fake craft eyelashes - use your imagination
Place one CD on a plain sheet of paper and draw the body of the animal of your choice around the CD using the CD as the main shape of the body, (like a fish or whale for example). Once you have drawn your shape, cut out your shape and place your paper template on a piece large enough to fit your template onto craft foam sheet. Trace your template and cut out your foam shape. Make a small hole, large enough to put your string through in the top of your shape. Insert your string through the hole until you have equal lengths and tie the ends in a secure knot. Set aside.
With one CD, dull, advertisement side up (non-shiny side), use enough craft glue to stick to the foam without glue squirting out on the edges. Place your foam craft shape on the glue, dull side of CD. Repeat glue on the second CD, dull side up and place on top of your foam shape, sandwiching your shape between the two CD's.
Decorate with eyes, eyelashes and anything else you wish. Let dry for at least an hour or until glue has set. Hang in a window and watch the sun reflect of your shiny animal shape turning gloomy faces into smiley faces.
This project should keep your kids busy for at least an hour or two and bring lots of enjoyment anywhere they hang. My kids hung their shiny creations in the windows of our RV and they look great!
Enjoy!
